Pacquiao not tipping Mayweather or Ortiz
Manny Pacquiao has never been shy coming forward, but he has stepped back from tipping a winner in the Floyd Mayweather v Victor Ortiz showdown on Saturday.
Both fighters have their attributes and either could win: “Both fighters have advantages. Floyd’s faster than Ortiz and Ortiz is stronger than Floyd, so it depends on how hard they trained for the fight.”
But it is not just Manny who has his doubts about the eventual winner, trainer Freddie Roach sees it the same way: “Victor’s a big strong kid. He’s a good puncher. You’ve got to give him a shot. Obviously, Mayweather’s a great boxer and you’ve got to favour him a little bit, but he’s been off a long time and I think Victor has a slight shot of pulling off the upset.”
One thing that will be concerning the Pacquiao camp is their payday with Mayweather if he takes a beating from the hard punching Ortiz. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao will have to attract the public’s interest and if the former looks below par against the WBC Welterweight Champion, then the public may turn the other way and not put down the hard earned dollars that pay for these matches.
So, Manny may want a decent performance from Floyd, even if he plans to meet up with him in the ring sometime in the spring.
Expect the speed and ring knowhow of Mayweather, one of the true greats of the ring, to pick holes in the more leaden footed Ortiz’s defence and carry the day.
